Apollonia 6 is the group that rose from the Vanity 6 Ashes. Apollonia 6 is really an overlooked gem of the Minneapolis Sound, for me anyway. She was Prince's alter ego, his twin, If she learned to play guitar and piano OMG. Apollonia 6 is the only studio album released by R&B vocal trio and Prince-protégés Apollonia 6.. Vanity 6 is such a 1982 album, a nice mix of New Wave with what Prince sounded like at the time. 34 years ago today, Apollonia 6 released their one and only album, an LP which failed to provide the trio with a long-term career but did manage to secure them a top-10 R&B hit.
Renamed by Prince as "Apollonia", her middle name, Kotero stepped into Vanity's role in the film Purple Rain, as well as in the fragmented group Vanity 6, as lead singer. Vanity 6's first album was also their last; in 1984, Vanity left the group and signed with Motown as a solo artist. I'm sure a lot of Prince fans would love to see these albums on here. I love how V6 fit in with and at the same time could be juxtaposed against the other popular girl groups of that time. The Apollonia 6 album side B was mainly filler, whereas every track on Vanity 6 is fantastic-- alright "3x2=6" was so-so.
